    Database migration successful

Posted by Bob Jansen on August 4, 2008 at 6:58 pm

As Michiel announced the 19th of July, we’ve been preparing a database migration. This migration was needed because of the database growing to fast and causing performance troubles. The new database solved some performance troubles and created room to add new features to Tweetburner.

In the weekend we’ve announced the migration Michiel first built a beta environment to test the new database for errors. After a week of internal testing we we’re able to make sure the new database was reliable. During the weekend of July 26th and July 27th the new database went live.

No problems in the core service occurred during the migration. The maximum downtime was about five seconds. Only the blog was affected by the migration. At this moment the blog is restored, but we’re missing a few of the recent blogposts. These will be restored from our hosting provider’s backup as soon as possible. Links to the missing blogposts are currently pointing to our pages in the Google Cache. We’re working hard to solve this issue.

With the new database in place we’re able to start developing new features again. The first feature on our list is posting and tracking your links to FriendFeed.

If you’ve got questions about the database migration, please let us know!
