    FriendFeed integration, almost ready!

Posted by Bob Jansen on August 22, 2008 at 11:02 am

It’s been a few days since we’ve first announced that we will start integrating FriendFeed into Tweetburner. The features have been developed and tested. There are a few little bugs left before we can put the new version live.

There have been several changes to the bookmarklet. Above we see the old bookmarklet (on the left) and the new bookmarklet (on the right). Let’s take closer look to the new bookmarklet.

We’ve tried to apply a cleaner and better design. On the bottom of the bookmarklet you notice the two login features for Twitter and FriendFeed. For Twitter you use your login credentials just as in the old bookmarklet. For FriendFeed you’ll need your remote key. To post to the services you check the box in front of the input boxes. If you want your login info to be remembered, check remember on the right.

As soon as we get the last bugs out, we will launch the FriendFeed integration. As always, we’d like to know what you think!

Perhaps I am missing the purpose of FriendFeed integration for Tweetburner, but what is the goal of this enhancement? If one has a Twitter account and one has a FriendFeed account, use of this feature seems to be redundant. If tweets are already being fed to FriendFeed, this will result in duplicate posts.

OTOH (and given the presence of check boxes to choose the service to which the Twurl will be posted), if this is meant to offer a choice for posting shortened URLs to Twitter *or* FriendFeed, does that mean you will be changing the name of this service to Twurlburner? ;-)

      Hi Velociped,

      Thanks for the comment.

Your point is clear. It’s true that FriendFeed users that also use Twitter risk double posting their links. In that way it is redundant. It require users to look how they want to use their servies.

Our goal is to reach the FriendFeed users that are not using Twitter (or using Twitter less). Also we want to broaden the services you can use with Tweetburner.

The name of Tweetburner won’t be changed. It is closely related to Twitter indeed, but it will remain the same.

I hope FriendFeed integration will be usefull for you. Otherwise there is more coming up.

      Regards, Bob
